A three mile hiking trail from the Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park campground led to this unique view of the Heceta Head Lighthouse.
Cape Blanco Lighthouse sits on the most western point of Oregon. Built in 1870, the lighthouse has survived years of howling winds that continually blow across the bluff. Parking is available at the lighthouse, but we chose a 4.5 mile loop trail that led us across the beach, then back along the forested cliffs.

The rusted remains of the Peter Iredale, a four-masted steel sailing ship that ran aground in 1906, are still visible on the shore of Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon.
Plenty of sunshine on the coast of Southern Oregon today where wildflowers are still blooming. Harris Beach State Park provides a much needed escape from the gloom and drizzle back home.
We discovered this beautiful Oregon State Park, located along the Chetco River, just a few short miles east of the southern coastal town of Brookings. The scenic Riverview trail provides the perfect opportunity to stretch one’s legs. Be sure to walk the entire 3/4 mile trail…it connects with the U.S. Forest Service’s Redwood Nature Trail, which leads to the northernmost stand of redwoods on the Pacific Coast.
While Smith Rock is a hot spot for climbing, there is also plenty of hiking for folks (like me!) who prefer to keep both feet on the ground.
